IT outsourcing hits entry-level wages

New research has revealed that salaries for entry-level IT roles have dropped over the last five years, as businesses look to cut costs by outsourcing services overseas.

Recent studies by iProfile.org and the Association of Technology Staffing Companies indicate that front line wages have stalled at around £18,000, while second line salaries have grown by just 0.8% per year – a percentage rise that falls well below the base rate of inflation.

Graduates going from degree to dole hits 8.9%

A total of 21,020 students who graduated last year were known to be out of work, some 8.9% of the total as revealed by the figures of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit (Hecsu). IT graduates struggled the most, with unemployment rising from 13.7% to 16.3% last year, followed by media studies graduates, with 14.6% of graduates jobless in 2009. (more…)
